Scar Contracture

Burns usually result in the loss of large sections of the skin. The resulting scar contracts the edges of the wound. This process is called burn scar contracture.

Duration of surgery Duration depends on the localisation and magnitude
Anaesthesia Local or general anaesthesia
Hospital stay Outpatient
Ability to move around and socialise Depends on the localisation and magnitude
Ability to work After 5 to 7 days

Scar contracture can also affect the muscles and tendons, thus leading also to restriction of normal mobility. Correction involves either a skin transplant or a flap plasty. However, special techniques such as Z-plasty are also applied often. The question of whether improvement is possible through surgery or not can only be answered after a personal meeting and extensive examination.
